What We’re Working On
Are you a beginner to sport or do you consider yourself as a pro athlete? Either way, we've got a sports team to suit you! Here at UWSU, our sports community are called the 'Westminster Dragons', or Dragons for short, and they compete in the British University & College Sports (BUCS) league as well as a range of other national competitions. We have both competitive sports and social sports so if you’re not into competing against other Universities we still have weekly social sport activities that you can get involved in. The Dragons cover over 20 different teams ranging from Cricket to Karate.
The Westminster Dragons are a strong community who are passionate about sports, so get involved and be part of the community! #WeAreDragons
At Westminster Students' Union we have over 70 societies that cover a variety of interests and activities. We have everything from Model United Nations to Korean Culture Society! Societies are a great way to meet new people and make new friends, so if you’re looking for like-minded people, then societies are the way to forward. You can also benefit from everlasting life skills and academic enhancement opportunities. Joining a society committee allows you to volunteer in your UWSU community and put on some great events! All the work committee members do will count towards the Westminster Employability Award and your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).
Don't worry if you can't find something that peaks your interest. A great way to leave a mark on the Westminster community is by starting something new; by starting a new society, and building on it, ensures that you and Westminster has a foundation for current and future students. You're not on your own - we’ll support you through the whole process and give you some great tips and tricks for finding your fellow members.
Here at UWSU, our events are hand-picked to cater to everyone’s taste. Unlike some places, we are very fortunate to have our own bars and social spaces, located in Harrow and Regent Street campuses. We also host events at amazing venues and locations around London to bring you the very best nightlife this city has to offer. However, we don’t just focus on those late-night boozy events. We understand the needs of our students - such as student parents and commuter students - and are working hard to provide a range of day time and early evening events that are just as fun and exciting! So be sure to check our Events page to stay updated on what's happening at UWSU.
UWSU 20 is a selection of our best student leaders that have shown excellence and had a great impact during their time with UWSU. They come from varied groups such as sports, societies, or part time officers, but their defining quality is the level of committment and hard work they've put over the last year to make UoW the place to be.
Head over to the UWSU 20 page to find a full list of students and their achievements for the academic year 2018-19.
The Elite Athlete Programme is an opportunity for students who excel in sport, competing at regional, national or international level. This programme provides students with the support and resources to make them the very best athletes they can be. The Elite Athlete page showcases the students we are supporting this year and more information on how to apply for the next academic year.
