5 WEARABLE TRENDS TO TRY THIS SUMMER

Wednesday 16-09-2020 - 13:11

By Megan Milstead

From cinched in corsets to barely-there fabrics – SS20 is about to get risqué.

Summer may feel like a long way off, but the fashion forecast has already been predicted. A peculiar mash-up of 80s colourways and 30s silhouettes. Here are some of the key styles you need to know about this season:

Modern crochet:

You may associate crotchet with your granny’s handmade woolen scarf – but that’s all about to change. Kate Spade proves that knitwear can be sexy. Try dark lingerie under lightweight floral embroidery for a look your nan might not be proud of.

Puffed sleeves:

Channel your inner Princess Diana, and try the puff sleeve trend. This romantic feature deserves a place in your summer wardrobe with faded denim jeans. Look to Zimmermann and Erdem and style it with Victorian high necklines and floral patterns.

Big bag:

Say goodbye to your mini bag, because this season it really is ‘go big or go home’, as seen at Off-White. Practical dressers will be in their element. A bonus? You get to avoid the dreaded ‘what can you even fit in that bag?’ question at family parties. Choose bold coloured faux leather for a subtle modern take on 80s fashion.

Corsetry:

Feel free to wear your underwear anywhere, as 2020 is all about corsets. At Mugler and Laquan Smith, structured boning and high leg bodysuits gave a flattering sculpt on the figure. Pair the look with low waisted baggy jeans and wet-look hair for a fresh out the bedroom look.

Sheer:

Organza stole the catwalk last season, and it looks like it’s here to stay for good. Take notes from House of Holland and Richard Malone and layer over cobalt polka dots and modest high necks. See-through has never been so wearable.
