RAG Society

Rag (Raising and Giving) is a new society we are developing relating to charitable fundraising. Becoming part of RAG gives you the opportunity to engage in enjoyable activities that raise funds for local, national and international charities of your choice. Several benefits come from RAG that will increase your graduate employability, such as volunteering, raising money for charity and teamwork. Whether you’re experienced with fundraising or new to charity work, the Students’ Union will support your role in RAG to getting the most out of it. From bake sales to Jailbreak, the fundraising activities are endless! If you would like to enhance your skills whilst having fun and making a difference, we want to hear from you!

As a RAG society, there are many charities you can get involved in, providing they align with the Student’s Union’s values. The RAG committee will collectively decide on the top 5 charities of their choice which will be put out for a student vote. These charities can be divided into local, national or international charities:

- Local: As a London based university, a local charity can include those in the surrounding areas, such as the Maypole Project and Wide Horizons.

- National Charities: Those fundraising within the UK, such as mental health charities Mind or CALM.

- International charities: Those based all around the globe, such as Action Against Hunger or Save the Children.

There are various fundraising events you can host! RAG enables you to be creative in choosing what event you like to do, where you would like to host it and on what platform. Below are some examples listed:

- Jailbreak: Fundraising by travelling to destinations around the world without spending a penny!

- Virtual London to Paris cycle

- Charity Auction

- Bake sales

Whilst being part of RAG, there are a wide set of skills you can learn that stands you apart from other applicants in graduate employability. RAG is a chance to develop your organisational skills; fundraising and completing a degree will highlight how to prioritise and work in an effective manner. RAG is also bound to boost your confidence skills! You’ll be talking to many different people when fundraising, whether that’s university staff, students or businesses. Your CV will also be strengthened by increasing your volunteering skills; showing commitment and dedication to making a difference is something that is highly valuable.
