What does your Student Group do?

EFS is the core centre at the University of Westminster for students interested in a career in the Economics and Finance industry. Ultimately, one of the main drivers of the society, is to help bring knowledge to practice, closing the gap between theoretical and practical worlds. We welcome everyone from every discipline.

Aims:

Helping students to pick up the routine of being commercially aware.

  • To confidently discuss recent affairs
  • Viewing a situation with a commercial focus and being able to connect it with their own educational experience
  • Understanding the industry, they wish to pursue a career in
  • To confidently develop the ability to be analytical and hopefully form their own opinions
  • To evaluate, how recent events affect the company? Through methods like SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats)
What kind of activities do you do?

Weekly snippets of the Key Financial News

We would like to begin with weekly emails that enclose the key financial news of the week. The weekly snippets will consist of simplified articles that are relevant to future studies. However, we would really like to specially focus on interesting news that is applicable to the module material. This will enable you to apply your commercial knowledge to your studies.

Masterclasses (An Evening in the Finance World)

Masterclasses surrounding areas of interest and upcoming trends in the world of Finance. This will provide you with an invaluable chance to network and the opportunity to expand your knowledge through focus sessions.

Debates

The foundation of economics is questioning! Is the government hindering the free market? The society will hold debates surrounding current economic conditions (e.g. Is the stock market too optimistic? Is the Credit Market about to crack? Can the world be less reliant on oil?). We will run this all within a safe field of likeminded curious members. We aim to empower you to grow your intellectual confidence and analytical minds.

Women in Finance

Starting next month, the society will kickstart a new series surrounding our commitment to pushing women to be more confident through networking events, career workshops and skill sessions. We want to ensure that your full potential is met!

Book Clubs

We will round up the newest upcoming exciting Economic, Finance and Business books to compliment and feed your interest in the area. If investment banking and the history of big deals fascinate you, we highly recommend you take part! We will take polls on our Instagram page to let you pick the first book. The poll will include books like;

  • Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street, Hollywood, and the World
