About us

The University of Westminster Students’ Union (UWSU) is here to represent you, Westminster students.

When you enrol you’re automatically a member of UWSU, an organisation which is run by students for students. We are independent from the University - UWSU champions your views at University boards and committees, ensuring that the student voice is heard when important decisions are made.

As well as representing you, UWSU organises a variety of extra-curricular events and activities for our students throughout the year. As well as our bar, shops and nightclub, the Union is home to a wide range of sports clubs and societies, and our very own student media - Smoke magazine, Smoke Xtra, Smoke Radio and Smoke TV.

Our Mission

UWSU works in the interests of University of Westminster students to enrich their lives.

That means we're here to make sure you have the best university experience possible and that your time at Westminster has a positive effect on your future.

Our membership
All students of the University of Westminster are automatically members of the Students’ Union (UWSU). We understand that our 23,000 members need different things at different times so what we do and our goals reflect this diversity.

Constitution
UWSU is run in accordance to its constitution. You can download the constitution here.

Our work

Keeping you in the know
It is our job to make sure you know what is happening at Westminster and you know where to go for help or support if you need it. We keep you informed about our events, services, activities and issues around your education and student experience.

We do this through our website, Facebook, Twitter, Smoke Media, email bulletins and our general meetings. By keeping you informed we hope you’ll get the most out of what’s on offer at UWSU.

Representing your views
Education and representation are fundamental parts of our work. We are here to get your voice heard - you tell us what works and what doesn’t from your student experience, then we tell the University and ask them to make some changes.

We look after your educational needs so if you have a problem with your course, lecturer, tutor, library, or pretty much anything, then we will represent YOU to the University to get students the changes that are needed. In this section of the website you can check out our education goals and policy for the year, find your course representative, watch many of our videos on education and much more. We also have plenty of videos and tips to help with study skills, employment, finance etc.

Offering activities and opportunities
UWSU provides a range of activities to make your time at Westminster a fun and stimulating experience. With our sports clubs, societies and social events, we work to ensure that all students can enjoy a good social life with opportunities for sport and fitness, stimulating debate and a chance to explore your interests.

We currently have over 70 active sports clubs and societies - from football to basketball, and religion to gaming. It’s also our aim to offer a wider range of sports and societies to get more students involved.

Providing advice and help
UWSU offers advice and guidance throughout your time at University. Our academic advisors are here to provide support if you encounter any problems with your course.

If you are ever in need of help or advice and you're unsure where to go, contact the Students’ Union and we'll do our best to help. And if we can't provide the advice ourselves we'll direct you to someone who can.

Bars and shops
UWSU has a bar and a nightclub which host a range of events throughout the year, all at student friendly prices. We also have two shops - one at Harrow Campus and one at Cavendish Campus, they sell all your daily student essentials at wallet-heartening prices.
